Robert said the lawsuit is a protest to the arrests, which they deem unsubstantiated.
“The KPK claimed that they made the arrests in order to speed up the legal proceedings. That reason doesn’t make any sense since our clients are cooperative and haven’t showing any signs of trying to escape the probe or obstruct the investigation,” Robert said.
Aside from filing the lawsuit, the former legislators will also request a suspension of detention by the KPK.
The KPK has detained the six politicians at Salemba Penitentiary in Central Jakarta, Cipinang Penitentiary and Pondok Bambu Penitentiary, both in East Jakarta, as they were implicated in a 2004 case of alleged bribery. They had allegedly received traveler’s checks worth Rp 24 billion (US$2.66 million) during the election of Bank Indonesia’s then deputy senior governor Miranda Swaray Goeltom.[kompas.com]
