KPK names former social affairs ministry official suspect

Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) said Friday that it had named Yusrizal, former chair of a working partnership directorate within the Social Affairs Ministry, a suspect in an alleged corruption case involving the procurement of sewing machines and cattle.

Earlier on Friday the KPK detained the ministry’s former director-general of social assistance for the poor, Amrun Daulay.

“After questioning, we also named ‘Y’ as suspect,” said KPK spokesman Johan Budi, as quoted by tribunnews.com on Friday.

According to Johan, the suspects, along with former minister Bachtiar, had allegedly abused their authority to take profits for themselves in the procurement process.

“We estimate that their action has caused Rp 25 billion (US$2.85 million) in state losses,” he said.
