Govt plans to ready farmers to brace for climate change, says VP

Vice President Boediono says that the government plans to educate Indonesian farmers on new farming technology to enable them to cushion the potential adverse impacts of climate change in order to protect the nation’s food supply.

“We have to prepare our farmers for climate change. They need technical assistance from the government,” said Boediono, as quoted by during the National Farmers and Fishermen Week event held in Kutai Kertanegara, East Kalimantan on Saturday.

Boediono said that the officers in charge should ensure that all farmers could follow technical guidelines supplied by the officers in charge in accordance with specific conditions in the field.

“We need to provide all necessary resources, including equipment, infrastructure, as well as funds to bolster the production process,” Boediono said.
