Supreme Court to issue temporary dismissal for Syarifuddin

Padang Supreme Court said that it would issue a temporary dismissal order (SK) for Central Jakarta District Court judge Syarifuddin on Monday.

“God willing, on Monday the temporary dismissal order will be signed,” court spokesperson Hatta Ali said Saturday, as quoted by Antara.

The letter will be signed by Court chief judge Harifin A Tumpa.

Judge Syarifudin was arrested by the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) at his home last week after he was allegedly caught red-handed accepting a Rp 250 million (US$29,000) bribe involving a corporate bankruptcy case.

He allegedly received money in three brown envelopes from a curator, identified as PW, who was believed to be managing the assets of a company named PT SCI.

The KPK also confiscated a car used by PW and foreign currency worth of over Rp 2 billion.

The money is composed of US$116,128, S$245,000, 20,000 Yen and 12,600 Cambodian riel, as well as over Rp 392 million.

The issuance of the letter on Monday, despite the arrest being on Wednesday, was due to the long holiday starting Thursday and because the Court Chief has been out of town.[tjp]
